AZARAE SCHOLARS
- School fees: Although school fees in Caribbean schools are mostly subsidized by the government, it is not enough for each school to operate at an optimal standard. Therefore each school uses an optional fee to offset the outstanding costs to ensure the students get the best education. We cover this fee for scholars we sponsor to ensure schools have the needed resources to fund their operations.
- Textbooks: All textbooks and additional materials used during the school year must be provided by the parent. A typical child ages 6 to 12 will require $50-$75 USD while a child ages 13 to 18 will require over $150 USD to cover all textbooks and additional materials.
- Uniforms: Caribbean schools require students to wear uniforms. This may include a tunic, blouse and skirt for girls and pants and shirt typically made with khaki or other fabric for boys. Most uniforms have an additional tie, crest, and/or epaulet. In addition there is a required color shoes and socks to go with the uniform. There is also a separate uniform required for physical education (PE). Typically 5 complete uniform sets (one for each day of the week) are required per student and one set of PE uniform. Each set of uniform on average can cost $25 – $40 USD, PE uniforms cost between $20-30 USD.
- Lunch money: This typically covers one balanced meal with protein, starch and vegetable along with a healthy snack and drink. $10-$20 USD provides 5 days of lunch for a small child.
AZARAE CARES
- Crisis Response: Natural and manmade disasters, pandemics and critical events and individual family crises significantly impact, displace and disadvantage Caribbean youth. In 2019, hurricane devastated the Bahamas, in 2020 the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted schooling and in 2021 a volcano eruption displaced many children in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. We reserve funding to rapidly mobilize support for youth in times of crises. Youth needs may vary from basic personal and school supplies, clothing, devices & internet for online learning, shelter and medical support. </P>
